8 years old, Mrs. MNJ arrived at HEAL Africa Hospital outpatient department on Wednesday, August 29, 2023 to see a doctor. At first glance, her prominent abdomen could suggest that she was carrying a full-term pregnancy. Actually, she had developed uterine myomas. After examination, the ultrasound scan revealed multiple myoma.
« It was in 2019 that I noticed an unexplained swelling of my abdomen. At first, I thought that it was a temporary phenomenon, but the volume kept increasing gradually. I attended three health facilities in Goma, which unfortunately did not help me what was going wrong and what was to be done to help me recover my health. Finally, a friend advised not to lose hope. He oriented me to HEAL Africa Hospital, and that’s what saved my life, » she said.
Mrs. Judith actually carried multiple myomas among which a giant one weighing 6100g. This was unbelievable! This explained why her neighbors in the Mabanga quarter, Goma city, had thought Judith was carrying a prolonged pregnancy.
She had a successful surgery that allowed the HEAL Africa gynecological team led by Dr Justin Paluku to remove from her uterus a total of 13 myomas. With a uterus that is now free of these myomas, Judith can carry pregnancies and have children.
